Nicolas Otamendi is hoping to seal an exit from Valencia before the club return to pre-season training on 27 July, according to reports in Spain.
The Argentinian centre-back, has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer with Louis van Gaal said to be keen to strengthen his defensive options.
Sergio Ramos had been the top target but it appears that he may have resolved his issues with Real Madrid, having travelled to Australia for pre-season and being named club captain after the departure of Iker Casillas.
Spanish newspaper Marca have branded Otamendi a 'rebel' with the player desperate to seal a move away from Valencia before he has to report for training. He is also keen for a higher wage, according to his agent.
Valencia's stance remains the same as it has done throughout - they will keep the defender unless a club activates his €50million (£35m) release clause.
The paper reports that Manchester United, who have already spent £90m this summer, remain in the lead for his signature.
