Manchester United's chase for Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi has taken another twist.
The Argentinian defender was last week reported to have told the Spanish club he is determined to leave this summer and wants his future wrapped up before the club return to pre-season on Monday, 27 July.
The defender even threatened to go on strike and told relatives that they should prepare to move; Los Che have maintained throughout that they will not sell for anything less than his release clause, which is set at around £35million.
Valencia local newspaper Superdeporte reports that the 27-year-old's exit from the club is not likely to be completed before pre-season starts and that he must report for training.
The report also states that he has booked a plane ticket for Spain having been on holiday after the Copa America in Buenos Aires.
The sticking point appears to be that Manchester United are not willing to pay the release clause.
United's transfer mogul Ed Woodward has flown back from the club's pre-season tour of the US with Louis van Gaal stating that he wants "at least" two more players before deadline day.
