Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Portuguese has been on loan at boyhood club Sporting Lisbon this season and has impressed, scoring 11 goals in all competitions for the club.
But whilst he has been on loan this season Manchester United have paid the entirety of his £110,000-a-week wages and although Sporting are keen to make his move permanent, there is no way the club could afford to pay, according to the Daily Telegraph.
With Memphis Depay having already arrived at the club and Angel Di Maria, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Adnan Januzaj on the books, there is no need for another winger in Louis van Gaal's squad.
Van Gaal has made it clear that the 28-year-old has no future at the club, but Nani is locked into a deal until June 2018 and if the club fail to sell Nani he will eventually end up costing them £17million.
