The north London club are understood to have told the player that they will not be renewing his current contract at Arsenal.
Flamini himself is hoping to secure a one-year extension having enjoyed a bigger role at the Emirates given the club’s recent injury plight.
The Frenchman has made 21 appearances this season but had a night to forget in Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Barcelona when he conceded a penalty just 47 seconds after coming on to the pitch.
With the emergence of Francis Coquelin as Arsenal’s first choice defensive midfielder, alongside the January signing of Mohamed Elneny, Flamini’s future at the club is looking bleak.
Reports also suggest that Wenger is looking for another midfielder this summer with the club remaining committed to a fresh overhaul of its central options.
With Flamini’s departure all but confirmed, Arsenal will lose a trio of players this summer.
Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky are also set to make their exit from the club – neither was offered a new contract.
While Rosicky will be open to the market, reports suggest Arteta could be offered a coaching role by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City next season.
As for Flamini, at least the 31-year-old can fall back on his promising biochemical company which will hope to tackle the issue of sustainable energy.
