Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

But the 34-year-old, who said City first made contact last season before returning in the past few days, has rejected their advances after insisting he is happy at the San Siro.
"City were one of the clubs that wanted me in the winter so it's not as though their interest has come from nowhere, but AC Milan have a very clear position and I can live with that," he told Voetbal International.
"I feel good as a footballer and I am appreciated here. And my family feels at home here."
The former PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder's agent Mino Raiola believes City wanted to sign him as cover for when the African Nations Cup gets under way in January.
"They have the problem that Yaya Toure will spend considerable time away at the African Nations Cup," he said.
"In addition, they know that Mark van Bommel works very well with Nigel de Jong."
Raiola repeated Van Bommel's claim that a move is out of the question, however.
"The message from AC Milan is clear. Mark van Bommel is not for sale under any circumstances."
