Real Madrid’s long pursuit of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea could lead to a surprise move to Old Trafford for Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel, according to reports today.

Real’s upcoming transfer ban means they want to sign De Gea before the end of this month and, according to The Sun, that will pave the way for United’s move for Schmeichel – the son of United legend, Peter Schmeichel - who has been a key player in Leicester City’s title challenge this season.

Also in the news is rising star Renato Sanches, with various reports suggesting a move to Old Trafford may be imminent for the Benfica midfielder.

Sanches, a Portuguese Under-19 international, is reported to have impressed United’s scouts in recent months. The Daily Mail suggests Louis van Gaal’s side will make a move – possibly in January but more likely at the end of the season. Sanches is understood to have a £58.8m buyout clause but United would get him for much cheaper.

Meanwhile, reports in Italy suggest Marouane Fellaini’s time at Old Trafford may be coming to an end, with the Belgian’s agent on his way to meet AC Milan officials to discuss a transfer this week.

According to Calciomercato, Luciano D’Onofrio is set to meet Milan’s joint chief executive Adriano Galliani to see if a deal is possible. Fellaini, a £27.5m signing by David Moyes in the summer of 2013, has failed to make an impact at United with many supporters eager to see him moved on.

United have also confirmed Liam Grimshaw, the versatile 20-year-old who can play in defence or midfield, has joined Championship side Preston North End on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

“This is a chance to get my career going,” Grimshaw told Preston’s official website.
