Sunderland are 'in pole position' to sign Adnan Januzaj on loan from Manchester United, according to reports.

The Sunderland Echo report that the Black Cats are favourites to beat Everton to sign the young winger, who burst on the scene when David Moyes was in charge but has failed to make any progress under Louis van Gaal.

The paper state that Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat is in advanced negotiations with his fellow countryman, with the two enjoying an excellent relationship after long spells in management.

However, Manchester United want to complete the signing of Pedro before allowing Januzaj to leave - the club continue to be in discussions with Barcelona - and the winger would want to have to move to the Stadium of Light.

Advocaat is keen to bolster his forward line with Sunderland the second lowest scorers in the division last year. A move for Leroy Fer collapsed last week and Jermain Lens has been the only attack-minded move of this window.

Januzaj is said to 'be aware' of Advocaat's achievements and may see working with the veteran manager as desirable
