New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal could make Netherlands and Feyernoord defender Sefan de Vrij his first signing since taking charge, according to reports
Lazio are believed to have made a bid for the commanding centre-back but De Vrij would rather be reunited with his Netherlands manager than secure a move to Italy.
The Sunday Mirror reports that the 22-year-old has been assured by Van Gaal that he is ready to make a £10m move for the defender. De Vrij was excellent during the World Cup and has just a year left on his current deal.
He started in all seven of the Netherlands’ games, either on the right of the three defenders or as a more traditional centre-back, scoring in the opening demolition of Spain.

The new boss has been tasked with getting United back into the Champions League at the first time of asking, though in his opening press conference Van Gaal said that he wanted to finish higher than fourth.
Injured Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman is another Dutchman linked with a move to Old Trafford.
The club arrived in the US on Saturday for their pre-season tour, with new men Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw on board.
