From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Times have reported that the club rejected Real Madrid’s offer of £27.4m plus James for the transfer of Paul Pogba.
Real cannot meet United’s £150m valuation of Pogba after spending close to £300m on transfers this summer and so resorted to an ambitious part-exchange offer.
But United do not value 28-year-old James at anywhere near £122.6m and reportedly refused Real’s offer outright.
Elsewhere, United are considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur‘s Christian Eriksen, ahead of what is set to be a fraught last week of the transfer window that could well see a merry-go-round.
The Danish playmaker has not yet signed a new contract at White Hart Lane, with his current deal set to run out next year, but his options are diminishing.
Eriksen’s first choice was Real Madrid but they have long cooled their interest, and are moving for Ajax‘s Donny van de Beek.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte is hopeful of finalising a deal for Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku in the coming days.
The Italian club have been chasing Lukaku all summer and have reportedly returned with a fresh bid of around £65million as they try and get the deal over the line.
They have until September 1 to sign the Belgium striker, who has not played a single minute of United’s pre-season campaign, and Conte is hopeful of bringing the 26-year-old to the San Siro.
“We continue to work on it in the best possible way,” he said after his side drew 1-1 at Tottenham in a pre-season friendly.
“I understand there are some gaps that need to be filled but at the moment I am very hopeful that this will happen.
“At the same time I’m working with a great group of players that gives me lots of satisfaction.”
