From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Juventus midfielder is expected to complete his long-drawn-out move to Manchester United in the coming days, with a world-record transfer fee of around £100m reportedly agreed upon.
Accoridng to Il Tempo, he will travel to Manchester for his medical on Thursday, though the Rome-based daily’s report is not corroborated by any other sources.
They also say that the deal is “una questione di ore”, which translates as “a matter of hours”.
Hold your horses, though, United fans. The phrase is not to be taken literally and is akin to saying “a matter of time” in English.
Bruma, the Galatasaray winger, is another name being linked with Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old Portugal winger played in his side’s 5-2 defeat against United in Gothenburg on Saturday and received some words of encourage from compatriot Jose Mourinho after the final whistle.
"He congratulated me for the performance and said he was impressed with me," Bruma said. "He promised to closely monitor my work and said I could play for the national team soon.
According to ESPN, the Super Lig club are keen to keep hold of Bruma despite speculation linking him with United and PSV Eindhoven.
Elsewhere, it looks like Bastian Schweinsteiger’s short United career will soon come to an end, what with him training with the reserves.
Bayern Munich’s top brass are open to the idea of him returning to Bavaria but, on Tuesday at least, Schweinsteiger appeared pretty content with the whole situation.
The Germany international, who signed a three-year, £200,000-a-week contract with United last summer, posted a message to supporters while celebrating his 32nd birthday.
"Hi guys, thank you very much for the birthday wishes and the positive comments I received about the national team career, I feel very honoured,” he said. “I hope we're gonna see each other soon. Bye."
Not so many ‘positive comments’ about your club career then, Bastian? Well, at least he wore a United shirt in the video.
