Wolfsburg defender Naldo says he is “honoured” to be linked with a move to Manchester United, but insists he is happy at the Bundesliga club and will make no decision on his future until the end of the season.

Reports in Germany claim that the 33-year-old is being watched by United with a view to offering them a short-term fix in defence, with current manager Louis van Gaal currently having few options outside of his starting back four that he can rely on to perform.

Despite working to bring the average age of his squad down by shipping on the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic among others, it’s no given that Van Gaal will still be in the United hot-seat come should they miss out on the top four, and a new manager could see yet another shift to bring in more experience.

Naldo only has four international caps to his name, but his experience in European football would certainly add to the United squad given he has been part of the Wolfsburg side that reached the Champions League quarter-finals as well as finish second in the Bundesliga last season.

But despite being pleased to see his name linked with a club of United’s stature, he stressed that he is more than willing to remain at Wolfsburg and says he is happy in Germany.

"Manchester United is a great club and I’m honoured by their interest,” Naldo said following the 3-0 defeat by Real Madrid on Tuesday that saw Wolfsburg eliminated from Europe 3-2 on aggregate.

"However I’m fine and I feel at ease here. So now I think only to end of the season."

Despite last season’s success and the Champions league run this term, Wolfsburg have not enjoyed the best of years and could risk losing a number of key players due to the absence of European football next term, with the side currently down in eight and six points behind Borussia Monchengladbach, Mainz and Schalke in fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.
