Maguire is determined to make the switch happen this summer and has his eyes on becoming captain at Old Trafford in the future, according to reports in The Sun.
Talks are continuing between the clubs and Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said there is no rush to complete a deal after Maguire played 45 minutes in a pre-season friendly.
"Harry's a top quality player and no-one has come near the valuation to tempt the club to sell," he said. “The other club interested is a huge club, but he's a really good guy. I've been in this position a number of times and it's never easy but he's taken part in everything and hasn't showed anything other than sheer professionalism.”
Elsewhere, Paul Pogba is running out of options as he looks to push through a transfer away from United.
The Independent revealed that Pogba is facing the prospect of beginning next season at Old Trafford with Paris Saint-Germain the only option left for him this summer.
While he remains “desperate to leave Old Trafford” due to his belief that the club can no longer compete for major honours, the number of potential destinations are declining as the transfer deadline looms.
Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, was asked about the possibility of him returning to Juventus and failed to rule out a future move. "I live my life day by day,” he said. “This is what I can say. Today I am here; tomorrow, I don't know."
United have lined up Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen as a possible replacement should Pogba leave the club this summer.
Ed Woodward has long been interested in signing the Spurs midfielder, who has one year left on his contract, and his desire to leave the north London club could tempt United to approach their Premier League rivals with a formal bid.
United are also going to push ahead with a £50m bid to sign Bruno Fernandes irrespective of Pogba’s future.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already lost Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic is not getting younger so the club has identified Sporting’s goalscoring midfielder as an adequate addition.
Fernandes is said to be keen on a move to Old Trafford and United are growing in confidence about their chances of getting the deal done.
United remain interested in Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff, although his current employers are demanding around £40m, something United are not willing to match.
