He may have been limited to just 13 appearances this season, but Adnan Januzaj will not be allowed to leave Manchester United on loan after manager Louis van Gaal blocked an approach from French league champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Januzaj broke onto the scene last season under David Moyes and was one of the very few positives experienced at the 2013/14 season at Old Trafford, but Van Gaal hasn’t favoured the winger like his predecessor did and believes that Januzaj does not suit his current formation.

The 19-year-old has been linked with a short-term move away from the Premier League club with the likes of PSG and Moyes’s new side Real Sociedad, and reports had given the impression that the Belgium international would be allowed to leave United until the end of the season to help his development with regular first-team football.

However, that appears not to be the case as Januzaj’s agent Dirk de Vriese has claimed the teenager will not be leaving the club despite interest from PSG as Van Gaal doesn’t want to lose him.

"Yes, PSG have shown themselves to be interested this winter," De Vriese said when speaking to French website Foot Mercato. "They directly contacted Manchester United for information.

"But Louis van Gaal announced that he [Januzaj] cannot leave this winter. Not as a permanent transfer nor as a loan.

"The coach considered him as an important player for squad. He is counting on everyone.

"It seems like a definitive decision, I don’t think that it can change.”

Januzaj made 35 appearances for United in all competitions when Moyes was in charge, but Van Gaal has given him just five starts since taking the reins at the beginning of the season. While he may not currently be in favour though, Van Gaal clearly sees Januzaj as part of United’s future, just maybe not the short-term.
