United confirmed on Saturday that they have reached a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Schweinsteiger subject to personal terms being agreed and a completed medical. The news sent United fans into a spin, with the 30-year-old World Cup winner set to finally complete a move that has been mooted for a number of years.
However, with the club also seeing a £20m bid for Southampton’s Schneiderlin rejected earlier this summer The Independent asked who would United fans want to see more at Old Trafford next season, and the results were rather inconclusive.
In fact, there was almost no separating who fans would prefer the club to sign in the coming weeks, with 52% choosing the German international over the Frenchman.
United could yet make a move for Schneiderlin this summer, although the £5.75m deal to land Schweinsteiger could very well end their interest in the Saints star. Schneiderlin came close to joining Tottenham last summer, only for Southampton to block any move and force him to stay at the club.
