Carlos Tevez has inadvertently stopped his old club Manchester United from signing Juventus-bound Boca Juniors teammate Rodrigo Bentancur.
Tevez, who won two Premier League titles at Manchester United before moving to rivals City, joined Boca Juniors in 2015 after leaving Juventus.
As part of the deal to bring the 32-year-old back to Argentina, Juve inserted a stipulation that they would have first option on all youngsters at Boca until April 2017.
As a consequence, the Italian champions saw their offer accepted before other interested parties, including Manchester United, AC Milan and Real Madrid, according to Boca president Daniel Angelici.
He confirmed the deal to take Bentancur to Juventus was done but did reveal United were top of the list of the remaining suitors for the Uruguayan midfielder’s services.
“It is already signed. When I was in Switzerland recently Juventus informed me that that they were going to activate the option so I will travel to Turin soon in order to complete the deal,” Angelici told TyC Sports.
“I think it's very good business for Boca. Juventus will pay £6.7million for 50 per cent of his rights.
“He must have something because there were a lot of clubs interested.
“Real Madrid made a proposal, Manchester [United] also came and Milan made a £12.5m formal offer to sign him.”
The 19-year-old has made 39 appearances and scored once since making his first-team debut two years ago, aged 17, and has established himself as one of the brightest prospects in South American football.
