Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Red Devils are one of a number of clubs who have been put on red alert after the agent of Paul Pogba said the midfielder would leave Juventus in the near future.
Mino Raiola said the Juventus midfielder would leave the club in the next 18 months. "If it does not happen this year, it will be next year," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I want the club that buys him to believe in him and be willing to pay for him. If Paul leaves Juventus, it is for the absolute top."
Italian newspaper Tuttosport report that the much talked about move for Arturo Vidal could be back on after the Chilean midfielder fell out with Juve manager Max Allegri.
The Italian manager is believed to be unimpressed with Vidal after the 27-year-old reacted badly to being substituted in a recent match against Parma. Vidal was linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer, but Louis van Gaal was put off by the high price tag and Vidal's knee issues.
Despite already having Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo in the squad, the Daily Express report that United are interested in another left-back, Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao.
With Marca reporting that Carlo Ancelotti is keen on Valencia's Jose Luis Gaya, Coentrao could be surplus to requirements with Marcelo also in the Real Madrid squad. Coentrao could cost £25m.
United continue to chase Borussia Dortmund skipper Mats Hummels, according to multiple reports.
THE DEAL'S OFF...
Louis van Gaal was dealt a huge blow after long-term target Kevin Stootman announced he would have to have knee surgery after suffering another injury last weekend.
The Roma midfielder has been continually linked with a move to Old Trafford, but will today undergo further surgery on the knee that kept him out of the World Cup.
Strootman has made just eight appearances for the Italian club since he first hurt his knee back in March.
HEADING FOR THE EXIT...
The Daily Telegraph report that United could finally have found a destination for misfit midfielder Anderson.
The Brazilian, 26, is out of contract in the summer and has been told he can leave Old Trafford. Internacional are in talks with a view to signing the former Selecao international.
