From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Your support makes all the difference.Manchester United are reluctant to let Scott McTominay leave this month despite the midfielder being linked with a loan move away from the club.
The Scotland international has attracted interest from Celtic north of the border as well as several English clubs.
However, following a calf injury to Marouane Fellaini, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer intends to keep McTominay at Old Trafford.
The United caretaker manager also revealed that the club are discussing new terms with McTominay.
“Scott is working hard, he’s a young boy I still believe in and we’re working on his contract,” Solskjaer said on Friday.
“With the injuries of Felli as well and the squad we have I’m not too sure we’re going to see any movement at all.”
United have been quiet in this month’s transfer window thus far and are not expecting any incomings or outgoings before the end of January.
Solskjaer is focussed on matters on the pitch rather than in the market and hopes to maintain his 100 per cent start against Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford this weekend.
“As I’ve said before, you go into every single game as a Man United coach, as a player or manager thinking you’ll win the next one. That’s just the nature of this club.
“We’ve had six good games but the next one is the most important one. Everyone said about Tottenham being the test, I don’t think that’s a test in attitude. The players are gonna be up for that game.
“I’m looking for a reaction in a home game against a team you should dominate and be better than. These are the points that will get you up the table.”
