Manchester United are braced for Real Madrid to return for goalkeeper David De Gea in the summer, according to the Sunday People. The La Liga outfit announced on Friday that the Fifa Appeal Committee has provisionally suspended the two-window transfer ban imposed on them for irregularities with regard to signing players under the age of 18.

That means they are free to pursue their long-term targets, with United’s Spaniard very much among them, before the close of business next summer. The report states Real will offer United around £23m and hand De Gea a £6.5m payment by way of an apology for their failed attempts to secure his signature last season, causing great disruption to his plans. The 25-year-old has yet again been in fine for the Red Devils despite their stuttering form this campaign.

In other news, United have been linked with Benfica sensation Renato Sanches and, if reports by Calcio Mercato are to be believed, they are poised to complete a €40m deal to sign the Portuguese midfielder. The 18-year-old has been in stunning form for his club this season and would command a sizable fee if any club hopes to steal him away from Benfica half way through the season.

Sanches reportedly has a €80m release clause in his contract and, while the Portuguese outfit are unlikely to ask for that figure in full, it remains a starting point for their negotiations. Manager Louis van Gaal is on the look-out for flair players to inject his squad with some attacking talent.

Michael Carrick is considering leaving Old Trafford in the summer after another year of frustration has meant the 34-year-old is likely to miss out on his last opportunity with England. Roy Hodgson’s men travel to France at the end of the domestic season for the European Championship but Carrick is unlikely to be chiefly among the former Fulham and Liverpool manager’s thoughts.

Carrick is out of contract in five months and is increasingly considering what life away from United, where he has spent just under ten seasons, would look like. The midfielder is now free to negotiate and sign a pre-contract with another team as his deal is expiring. The Sun say Newcastle United have shown a tentative interest in the past, as have Paris Saint-German, but Major League Soccer clubs are likely be monitoring his situation closely in the coming months.

Tottenham Hotspur have notified United they have no intention of letting Danny Rose leave for the north west, according to the Sunday People. The report, published this morning, suggests the Red Devils have sent scouts to watch the England star on the last four occasions and are lining up an offer in the summer.

Van Gaal is seeking long-term cover for Luke Shaw, still out injured, and the Dutchman sees Rose as the ideal man for that task. Mauricio Pochettino, the Spurs boss, has preferred Ben Davies at left-back this season, giving United hope they may be able to lure the 25-year-old.
