Earlier this week the Daily Mail reported that United were closing in on a deal for Justin Kluivert. They claimed the club were in “advanced talks” with Ajax over the 18-year-old, and were ready to agree a fee of around £10million for the son of former Holland and Barcelona striker Patrick.
However, it seems talks have now fallen through, with the Mirror this morning saying that the youngster has turned down United “for now”.
His father, Patrick, is meanwhile quoted by the Metro saying that the move “wouldn’t make sense”.
“I have heard the rumours but I haven’t spoken to Mourinho,” he said.
“A move to Manchester United wouldn’t make sense, for now.”
Kluivert is widely considered to be one of the most exciting young talents in Europe, and our very own Jack Pitt-Brooke went to interview him last season. You can read that piece here.
Other rumours:
Like United, Arsenal may also be in for some transfer disappointment. Liverpool could move to sign Jack Wilshere if he rejects a new deal at Arsenal, according to the Sun. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is ready to match Wilshere's current salary if he can land him on a free this summer, the paper reports.
Steve McClaren is in the frame to become Leeds' new manager, according to the Daily Mirror. The paper says the former England boss was in the stands at Elland Road on Saturday and could be a contender for the job after Thomas Christiansen was sacked on Sunday night.
Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly looking to sign young Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic. The Daily Mirror says reports in Germany suggest the Premier League duo will join Bayern Munich in the race to sign the 19-year-old United States international.
Leicester reportedly want to replace Riyad Mahrez with Thorgan Hazard. The Sun says reports in Germany suggest the former Blues midfielder, and brother to Eden, is high on their shortlist as they plan for life without Algerian Mahrez.
Players to watch:
Mateo Kovacic: Manchester United are reported to be interested in the Real Madrid midfielder. The Manchester Evening News says reports in Spain suggest the club are one of four teams monitoring the 23-year-old, alongside Juventus, Inter Milan and Tottenham.
Andrija Zivkovic: Arsenal are reportedly eyeing up a move for the Benfica star. The Mirror says reports in Portugal have suggested that the Gunners watched the 21-year-old before he moved to Lisbon, and that officials are believed to have tracked his progress ahead of a possible summer move.
