Manchester City are now the bookmakers’ favourite to sign German international Marco Reus. Confident reports from City sources suggest a £20m bid for the 25-year-old winger may already have been lodged, while odds on a deal being done have dropped from 12/1 to 7/2. United, Chelsea and Arsenal look set to miss out on the player, while reports he had travelled to Madrid for a Real medical were dismissed by the player’s agent.
MISSING MIDFIELD…
With Yaya Toure’s future very much in doubt and an injury scare for Frank Lampard in City’s Abu Dhabi friendly this week, Manuel Pellegrini is acutely aware that he could do with bolstering his central midfield options. He is widely reported to be in the market alongside Arsenal and Manchester United for former Chelsea player Kevin de Bruyne, in addition to the ongoing speculation of a £40m or more move for Juventus’ Paul Pogba.
NOISY NEIGHBOURS…
With Manchester United hesitating over whether or not to bring in Radamel Falcao on a permanent deal, City are preparing to swoop in and lure the Colombian away in the summer.
Falcao is widely considered unlikely to return to AS Monaco once his loan finishes, but while Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested City see the striker as an ideal replacement for Edin Dzeko to build a partnership with Sergio Aguero.
OUTWARD BOUND…
A move away from the Etihad is looking increasingly likely for James Milner. The 29-year-old winger has still been unable to agree terms on a new contract, meaning the rare prospect of a senior current England international becoming available on a free transfer. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has already expressed his admiration for the former Leeds and Newcastle player, while Valencia are heavily reported as leading the pursuit for his signature on a pre-contract deal from abroad.
NOT GOING ANYWHERE…
He may not have had the smoothest of City career starts, but one player who has ruled out a move away from the Etihad is Stevan Jovetic. A number of major European clubs are thought to be monitoring the striker’s situation, but at 25 Jovetic says there are “a lot more goals to score” at City first.
NUTURING TALENT...
Two of City’s finest young prospects are plying their trade north of Manchester at Celtic, and the Glasgow club are reported to be interested in keeping it that way. At 22, John Guidetti has produced an impressive 11 goals in 18 appearances in Scotland and manager Ronny Deila would like to make the move permanent. City are reportedly willing to listen to offers – but want to keep hold of 19-year-old centre back Jason Denayer. The Belgian youngster is believed to be keen on the opportunity to extend his stay at Celtic by another year, though.
