With Liverpool locked in their customary position on the periphery of the Champions League spots, Jurgen Klopp may be busy this January.

The enigmatic German has witnessed a mixed bag of results since joining the Reds late in 2015 and so may be inclined to dip into transfer market in the coming weeks.

A romantic move for former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, now at Bayern Munich, will pull at the heartstrings but Klopp may be forced to move onto more realistic targets, including Marko Grujic from Red Star Belgrade.

The former Dortmund boss is reportedly on the verge of announcing Grujic as their first January signing from Red Star Belgrade after the 19-year-old arrived in Merseyside on Sunday evening.

With reports suggesting a £5.1m move to Anfield will be completed within the next 24 hours, Klopp's first signing is expected to return to the Serbian club on loan for the rest of the season, say the Liverpool Echo.
