From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Liverpool appear to have conceded ground to Manchester United in the race to sign Bruno Fernandes.

Sporting Lisbon coach Marcel Keizer has admitted there is only a slim chance of the Portuguese international staying.

Fernandes' future appeared linked to the Reds selling Rafa Camacho to Sporting Lisbon in a permanent deal.

The £5m deal will reportedly include a buy-back clause and a sell-on percentage thought to be around 20 percent after Camacho's plea to leave for first team football was met.

With the deal now separate to Fernandes, it appears Liverpool's interest has now cooled.

Liverpool fended off late competition from Bayern Munich before announcing the signing of Dutch starlet Sepp van den Berg for £1.3m.

The 17-year-old has signed a long-term deal at Anfield, with Ajax also thought to have made a late run at the talented defender.

Speaking on his move from PEC Zwolle, van den Berg said: “It’s just an amazing feeling. It is, for me, the biggest club in the world and it’s a dream come true.”

Elsewhere, Nicolas Pepe is reportedly still attracting attention, with the Daily Record’s Duncan Castles claiming that there is still “hope” for a deal to bring him to Liverpool. It had been reported that Inter Milan had lodged a £72m bid for the winger but Castles has quashed those rumours.

Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has said that one-time Liverpool target Nabil Fekir was left “very frustrated with his non-transfer to Liverpool” last season. The Frenchman’s move to Anfield collapsed at the 11th hour last term.

Liverpool are also keeping tabs on Inter Milan youngster Sebastiano Esposito, who has also piqued the interests of Manchester City and PSG, according to Inside Futbol.

Ryan Kent’s hopes of rejoining Rangers on loan next season have been dealt a blow, with Liverpool reportedly only interested in sanctioning a permanent deal for the 22-year-old.
