Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp 'refused' to pay £10m for Ben Chilwell despite left-back problem
The promising 19-year-old defender has since signed a new five-year contract with Leicester

Jürgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, reportedly refused to meet Leicester City valuation of Ben Chilwell, despite his side’s dearth of options at left-back.
The promising 19-year-old defender’s price of £10m was deemed too high for a player who is yet to make his Premier League debut, according to an insider on Liverpool’s transfer window by Joe.co.uk.
Chilwell, a product of Leicester’s academy, has since signed a new five-year contract with the club.
The England Under-21 international was one of several left-backs linked with a move to Anfield this summer, amid a shortage of quality options in the position.
Cologne’s Jonas Hector, Chelsea’s Cristian Cuevas and Hull City’s Andrew Robertson were all mentioned in connection with a move to Merseyside, among others, but Klopp decided against strengthening his reserves.
James Milner is currently playing out-of-position to fill the role, having replaced the erratic and error-prone Alberto Moreno as first-choice.
Moreno has not appeared for Klopp’s side since last month’s opening weekend 4-3 win at Arsenal, during which the Spaniard clumsily conceded a penalty.
The 24-year-old, who ranked among the most creative full-backs in European football last season, was also criticised for his display in May's 3-1 Europa League final defeat to Sevilla.
Liverpool will meet Leicester in their first home game of the season on Saturday.
