Liverpool have been linked with a move for Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel as the club continues to assess its current goalkeeping conundrum.

An authoritative figure in between the sticks is desperately sought at Anfield as both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius struggle to convince.

Although Mignolet has since returned to Liverpool’s XI following a period of prolonged absence and has successfully kept two clean sheets on the bounce, neither he nor his fellow goalkeeper have the firm backing of the Anfield faithful.

According to Football Whispers, the Reds are therefore contemplating making another move for Schmeichel after enquiring about the Leicester player over the summer.

But with the Foxes just three points off safety following a dismal start to the season, any move for the Danish ‘keeper would require a lucrative offer.

Schmeichel was a vital cog in Leicester’s Premier League-winning campaign and his efforts in goal were rewarded with a contract extension in August, tying him to the club until 2021.

At 30 years old, Schmeichel still has to plenty to offer and it’s believed a bid above and beyond £20m would be required to bring Leicester to the transfer table.

Meanwhile, Mamadou Sakho will not be leaving Anfield for French side Lille, according to the club’s new general manager Marc Ingla.

“We are preparing for the January window," Ingla told French radio station RMC.

"There are some interesting things we can do. We have contacted agents. We have spoken with the clubs. You have to do things properly.

"Depay and Sakho? I would prefer not to be specific! But I do not think that they will be coming to Lille, if you want an answer."
