Enrique emerged as a target for Newcastle after Steve McClaren failed to sign any of his three preferred left-backs in Lucas Orban, Guilherme and Davide Santon.
Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, was happy to sanction a move for Enrique, who has played just three times this season.
However, Chronicle Live reports the move fell through because an agreement could not be reached over the length of Enrique’s contract, with the defender let with no option but to stay at Anfield.
Enrique cost Liverpool £8m when he joined from Newcastle in August 2011, but after impressing initially he has steadily fallen out of favour, and looks no near the first team under Klopp.
The 30-year-old now has no option but to see out the remainder of his contract, which runs until June.
