Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Roberto Firmino has signed a new contract with Liverpool, committing his future to the Anfield club for at least the next four years.
The Brazilian arrived from Hoffenheim in a £29m deal back in 2015, and has established himself as one of Jurgen Klopp's most important players as Liverpool improved season-on-season to secure Champions League qualification and reach the semi-finals of the same competition, where they take a 5-2 lead into this week's second leg at Roma.
Currently enjoying his best season since moving to England, Firmino was rewarded with a new contract by the Reds who will now also look to tie star man Mo Salah to an improved, longer-term deal.
“It was an easy decision," Firmino said in a statement.
“The club have taken me in in an incredible way and I’ve grown a lot here with my work with the support of the whole team. I am very, very happy here.
“Everything fits in the best possible way. My teammates are fantastic and I am very grateful to be able to play with them at this club.
“I love to play for Liverpool FC. The fans are excellent and fantastic in how they support us all the way. They support us throughout the games and the work they do during the match is beautiful.”
Firmino has netted 27 times this season, taking his goal total to 50 in 140 games.
