Fenerbahce claim Liverpool will not sell Lazar Markovic even if the Turkish club offer £20m for the on-loan winger.

Markovic joined Liverpool from Benfica for £20m in the summer of 2014 but struggled to make an impact under Brendan Rodgers at Anfield and was then loaned to Fenerbahce for the season last August.

The Turkish club have been impressed enough by the winger to consider making the move permanent, but Jurgen Klopp appears reluctant and, according to daily newspaper Sabah, Liverpool have monitored the player in every Fenerbahce game this season and would not sell him even for £20m.

Markovic only scored three times for Liverpool but produced some eye-catching displays - particularly in the second half of the campaign - that suggested there is more to come.

And given Jurgen Klopp’s relative lack of incision in midfield, Markovic staying at Anfield does not appear to be out of the question.

Markovic this week revealed that he left Anfield because of a breakdown in communication with Rodgers. “I had no problem with Brendan Rodgers and we had a bond until, for some reason that remains a mystery to me, he changed,” Markovic said.

“He stopped playing me and then at the start of the season he didn't even include me in the squad, and nobody explained to me what was going on or what his plans were, so I decided to leave.”
