From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

According to the Daily Mail, Sevilla have failed in an attempt to take Sturridge on loan for the remainder of the season, despite offering to pay his wages in full.
Inter are also interested in a temporary move but Liverpool are expected to hold out for a permanent deal.
Sturridge has found himself on the fringes of Jurgen Klopp’s squad this season and is seeking regular first-team football in order to make England’s World Cup squad.
Elsewhere, the Liverpool Echo reports that Leon Goretzka will reveal his decision to join Bayern Munich in the coming days.
The Schalke 04 midfielder had attracted interest from Anfield as his contract with the Bundesliga club expires this summer.
Goretzka looks set to stay in Germany, however, after Liverpool received “little encouragement” that a deal could be done.
Liverpool’s Emre Can is another German midfielder who could move on a free transfer this summer, with Juventus tracking the 24-year-old.
The Serie A giants have made no secret of their interest in Can and chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has now said they will do “all they can” to finalise a deal.
“Emre Can is a player whose contract is running down,” he said. “So it allows us to approach him for negotiations and that is the course we have taken.
“I can't say if he could sign a new contract with Liverpool, but I can say we will try all we can to get the player. Obviously, we have to respect what the player wants.”
