Sean Dyche, the Burnley manager, has dismissed reports of interest from Liverpool in James Tarkowski as "bizarre".

Jurgen Klopp has been left short of options in defence recently, with Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all suffering injuries.

However, Liverpool are not expected to buy in the January market and Dyche has played down reports of Anfield interest in defender Tarkowski.

“There are a lot of rumours out there, and not much fact,” Dyche said. “The most amazing one is the Tarky one. That is just bizarre.

“It’s that time of the season, and everyone is looking for a snippet, but there is a lot of phantom stuff out there.”

Out-of-favour left-back Alberto Moreno has reportedly told Liverpool of his desire to leave the club in search of more regular minutes.

Moreno fell behind Andy Robertson in Klopp's pecking order more than a year ago and has only six months remainng on his current Anfield contract.

According to Estadio Deportivo, the 26-year-old is keen to return to his native Spain and seek new challenges.

Meanwhile, Divock Origi is likely to be kept at Anfield for the remainder of the campaign despite interest from other Premier League clubs.

The Liverpool Echo report that Klopp is reluctant to let Origi leave, having recently sanctioned the £19million sale of Dominic Solanke to Bournemouth.

Origi scored his second goal of the season on Monday night in the FA Cup third round defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, one of the clubs linked with his signature.
