The Netherlands international has been the favourite to arrive at Old Trafford should the current No 1 depart for Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants have pursued De Gea all summer but United are refusing to let him leave easily. At first executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward insisted that Sergio Ramos was part of any deal, but then the defender signed a new contract at the Bernabeu.
United are now insisting that Real Madrid stump up £28m, something they've so far refused to do considering the Spain international will be allowed to leave for free when his contract expires at the end of this season.
However, should an agreement be reached and De Gea goes, United will likely pursue a top-class replacement to add competition for Sergio Romero. It's thought that Cillessen will be that player, however he claims to have had no word from Old Trafford and nor is he contemplating a switch.
"As far as I know it has never been a thing," he told NOS. "I, the club, or my agent have never heard anything. As for me, this season begins and ends at Ajax."
Manchester United have also been linked with Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
