Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Premier League clubs have already spent more than £1billion in the 2015-16 as spending on players hit a record mark once more.

With four hours still remaining on deadline day, that spending should go even higher, with Loic Remy, Saido Berahino and Giannelli Imbula among the big names close to completing deals.

Plenty of money was spent in this window, with Newcastle United and Norwich City the two teams making the biggest splashes, while Watford saw 14 players arrive and exit from Vicarage Road.

Steve McClaren bought the two most expensive players this winter, when he spent £12million each on England fringe players Jonjo Shelvey, from Swansea City, and former Tottenham Hotspur winger Andors Townsend.

Manchester United have, so far, failed to add any reinforcements to their struggling squad - even Arsene Wenger (finally) bought an outfield player, with Mohamed Elneny arriving from Basel.

Manchester City trumped all of that news on Monday, however, when they announced that Pep Guardiola would be taking over from Manuel Pellegrini in the summer.

Here is a club-by-club guide to every Premier League team's January business:
