Borussia Dortmund are leading the race for Valencia winger Ferran Torres despite interest from Premier League clubs as the Bundesliga side line up a replacement for Jadon Sancho.
The coveted Spain U21 international has been the breakout star of Valencia’s academy this season but has little over a year remaining on his contract and has so far shown little desire to sign a new deal.
The Independent understands Dortmund are currently considered frontrunners by sources close to the 20-year-old, despite recent reports of enquiries from Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Torres’s contract includes an £88m release clause, however, Valencia may be forced to accept a significantly reduced fee for a player who was on the brink of an international call-up prior to the coronavirus outbreak.
Barcelona and Real Madrid, who have previously attempted to sign Torres on three separate occasions during his time in Valencia’s academy, have both long held an interest in Torres, but Germany is currently seen as his most likely destination.
Dortmund are working to secure a replacement for Sancho, who they are prepared to lose this summer for a fee in excess of £100m, with Manchester United currently favourites to sign the winger.
The Independent understands Ajax had hoped to sign Torres as a replacement for Hakim Ziyech in January, however, the Dutch champions have since turned to Brazilian Antony from Sao Paolo.
