Diego Costa could be set for a remarkable return to the Premier League with Everton owner Farhad Moshiri determined to make a ‘statement signing’ this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Moshiri has instructed his managerial team to assess the chances of recruiting Costa from Atletico Madrid and is willing to personally invest his own funds in the move.

Everton manager Marco Silva currently has Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun has his two recognised striking options, with the club often struggling in front of goal last season.

Moshiri is meanwhile desperate to make a signing that puts Everton on the map and has been alerted to Costa’s situation at Atletico. The 30-year-old, who left Chelsea in incredibly acrimonious circumstances two seasons ago, has scored just 4 La Liga goals since making his return to Madrid.

Mundo Deportivo have this summer reported that the Spain international is up for sale as Atletico prepare for a summer rebuild of their own.

Everton are meanwhile ready to make a £16m offer for Manchester City and England midfielder Fabian Delph, according to The Sun.

City have recently signed Rodri to play in midfield, and have a number of options at left-back following the acquisition of Angelino as well as the new contract handed to Oleksandr Zinchenko.

That means that Delph, 29, is going to be starved of first-team opportunities and the Premier League champions could be tempted to cash in this summer.

The newspaper claims that Everton are ready to offer Delph assurances of first-team football next season in his favoured position of centre-midfield, although he will also be expected to cover Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines at left-back if needed.

The Daily Star meanwhile claim that Everton are keeping close tabs on West Ham target Maxi Gomez – and could yet hijack the deal.

Reports in Spain claim that both Valencia and West Ham have had offers of £29m accepted by Celta Vigo for the forward.

The Star have reported that Everton may yet gazump both of those clubs with a higher offer after they saw a £16m offer for Birmingham forward Che Adams rejected.

Finally, the club’s attempts to sign Torino defender Armando Izzo have hit the rocks with the Italian club upping the player’s transfer valuation.

Everton are determined to sign a new centre-back this window following Kurt Zouma’s return to Chelsea.

The Toffees had been encouraged by Torino’s initial valuation of £26.9m, but Tuttosport have this weekend reported that the defender has entered into new contract talks which could see his minimum release clause soar to £44.8m – putting him firmly out of Everton’s price range.
