Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Real Madrid will offer Cristiano Ronaldo back to Manchester United for €60m (£48.5m) this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish publication ES have claimed that Real have decided to cash in on the 31-year-old at the end of the season because his contract expires in 2018 and he will only lose value.
Ronaldo played for United between 2003 and 2009 before his then-world record £80m move to Real. The Portuguese scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for the Old Trafford side, and won three Premier League titles, three League Cups, one FA Cup and one Champions League in a trophy-laden spell with the club.
He left United to join Real for a then-world record £80m in 2009.
Ronaldo has enjoyed another prolific campaign this season, scoring 42 goals in 40 appearances for Real in all competitions.
Despite defeating Barcelona 2-1 on Saturday, it has not been the best of campaigns for Real. They are seven points behind leaders Barca and lost 2-0 to Wolfsburg last night in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg.
