Edouard Mendy is scheduled to complete his long-awaited move to Chelsea on Tuesday, Frank Lampard has said.

The Rennes goalkeeper, 28, underwent a medical at Chelsea earlier in the day, with Blues coach Lampard expecting an announcement confirming the completion of his transfer at any moment.

"Subject to that being okay, then he will become our player," Lampard is quoted by ESPN as saying.

Mendy's arrival will bring competition for keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has struggled for confidence and form in recent times.

The Spaniard, 25, made another bad error as Chelsea were defeated 2-0 by Liverpool at the weekend, and he has failed to justify his price-tag as the most expensive goalkeeper in the world since his £71million arrival in 2018.

Mendy, meanwhile, is expected to cost the west London club in the region of £20m.

“With Mendy, it is more competition and it will push Kepa himself to be in this team,” Lampard said on Tuesday.
