Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are considering a bid for Chelsea's German winger Andre Schurrle, according to reports.

Diego Simeone has spent £70m already this summer but is still in the market for players as Diego Costa, Filipe Luis, David Villa and Thibaut Courtois - starters last season - have all left.

Mario Mandzukic and Antoine Griezmann have arrived, but Simeone could test Chelsea's resolve, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 23-year-old Schurrle only joined from Bayer Leverkusen last summer and was in and out of the team throughout the season.

After an £18m move he ended up making 43 appearances under Jose Mourinho, scoring nine goals, but he started a number of games from the bench.

Mourinho is a fan of the German and his versatility - he is comfortable across the front three - but Chelsea have to sell a foreign player to comply with Premier League and Champions League home-grown quotas.

Atletico could use that to their advantage, though Chelsea are more keen on selling John Obi Mikel and possibly long-serving goalkeeper Petr Cech.
