Manchester United target Bastian Schweinsteiger has said that remaining at Bayern Munich to win a fourth successive league title is a "motivation" for him.

The Germany international has been strongly linked with a summer move to Old Trafford but his comments suggest that he may have unfinished business at the Allianz Arena.

The 30-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and rather than making a £7m move to Manchester United, may see out those 12 months at his current club in a bid to add another Bundesliga medal to his collection.

"I would like to win the Champions League again, but also once again play as successfully as in the last few years," he said in an interview with German news outlet Sport1.

"We are three times German champions. And I think no team has managed it four times. That’s a motivation.

"I feel good and I’m ready to play for the next three years at the top level. That’s my goal."

Louis van Gaal worked with Schweinsteiger during his time as Bayern Munich manager, something that has seen the World Cup winner made the top priority as Manchester United look to bring in a new central midfielder.

Should no deal transfer, Morgan Schneiderlin of Southampton is an alternative option that has also been linked with a move to Manchester United.
