Chelsea have completed the signing of goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from Stoke City for a reported £8m.

The Bosnian replaces Petr Cech, who moved to Arsenal earlier this summer.

Begovic said: "I am very happy to be joining Chelsea FC. After speaking at length to the manager, I feel like I can develop here and be an important part of this team. I am looking forward to meeting up with the team on Wednesday for the pre-season tour."

Thibaut Courtois will remain No. 13 with Begovic taking the vacant number No.1 shirt.

The 28-year-old Begovic wrote on Twitter that a chat with Blues manager Jose Mourinho convinced him to sign for the Stamford Bridge side.

"I am very happy to be joining Chelsea," he wrote. "After speaking at length to the manager, I feel like I can develop here and be an important part of this team. I am looking forward to meeting up with the team on Wednesday for the pre-season tour."

Begovic established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at the Britannia Stadium having moved from Portsmouth in 2010, winning the Stoke player of the year award in 2013.
