Ashley Cole has been linked with a transfer to Manchester United.

Reports today emanating from the Daily Express suggest that the former Chelsea defender is being considered as an option to boost the defensive ranks at Old Trafford.

It comes following suggestions that Cole has failed to settle in the Italian capital. His performances have not been of the level that has come to be expected after his eight years of success and consistency at Chelsea.

Roma manager Rudi Garcia is reportedly looking for a replacement, despite Roma losing just once this season and sitting second in Serie A with just four goals conceded in eight games.

Cole was linked with Manchester United before it was announced he would be joining Roma. Suggestions that Louis van Gaal is still interested in the 33-year-old seem rather bizarre considering two left-backs, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo, were signed over the summer.
