Arsenal could yet spring a deadline day surprise by signing Dynamo Kiev’s Andriy Yarmolenko for £23m, according to Ukranian outlet sport.ua. The 26-year-old has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs in the past with Everton known to have considered a £21m offer in the past. The 26-year-old, however, has thus far resisted the temptation to join the riches of English football.

While it remains unlikely Yarmolenko would risk scuppering his chances of being named in the Ukraine squad for this summer’s European Championship, the reports suggest Arsene Wenger remains active in the transfer market despite the Frenchman’s claims to the opposite.

Asked if any more players could arrive before the window closes, Wenger said: “No, not at the moment. We have 23 players in training - and plus two is 25 - so unless people go out we are not on the verge of bringing anybody in.”

Full-back Mathieu Debuchy remains hopeful he will be able to finalise a loan move to Premier League bottom club Aston Villa before the transfer deadline passes. The France international is fighting for his place in the national side ahead of Euro 2016 and is willing to drop down into a relegation scrap if it means securing more first-team football. Debuchy has been training with his Gunners team-mates as the two parties continue to negotiate terms on his temporary switch to the Midlands.

According to the Daily Mirror, Villa have been told the 30-year-will cost a £1m loan fee and Remi Garde’s side will also be expected to pay his £60,000-a-week wages in full. The steep figures quoted by Arsenal have held up progress in the deal but Villa are hoping that they can achieve a compromise this afternoon. Sunderland are also interested in the Frenchman.

Serge Gnabry can follow in Francis Coquelin’s footsteps and become a first-team regular at the Emirates Stadium, Gunners manager Wenger has said. The former Monaco boss was speaking after the 2-1 FA Cup fourth round victory against Burnley and hinted the 20-year-old may be sent out on loan again after an unsuccessful spell with West Bromwich Albion.

Gnabry has been linked with a temporary spell with Charlton, where Coquelin stared last season before breaking into the starting XI in the capital. “I am tempted to let him go somewhere [on loan], to do with him what I did with Coquelin. To go somewhere for a month or two and then come back.”
