Unfortunately for those hopeful of seeing the Algerian winger swap the King Power Stadium for the Emirates, Brendan Rodgers does not think he’s on the move. And he’d know, of course…
“He looks happy,” Rodgers said. “If he is playing well and working well, I wouldn’t say there is a need for him to move.”
Demarai Gray, Mahrez’s Leicester City team-mate, is perhaps in a better position to comment and, according to the England Under-21 international, Mahrez is not letting the speculation get to him.
“There is a lot of speculation around him but he doesn’t seem to be bothered by any of that,” Gray said.
“He works hard and he’s a Leicester player. We’ll just do what he does, train and focus on games."
Nevertheless, The Mirror believe that Mahrez could join as part of a £75m ‘double swoop” that would also see Alexandre Lacazette arrive in north London.
The Lyon striker is thought to be resigned to staying at the Ligue 1 club for now, following reports in France last week, yet Arsenal have apparently not lost hope yet.
Arsene Wenger reportedly held a meeting with Lacazette’s agent during the summer and his asking price would be around £40m, the tabloid claims.
Hector Bellerin, meanwhile, may have hinted that he will not be leaving the Emirates this summer.
The full-back, who has been linked with Barcelona and Manchester City in recent weeks, tweeted a picture on Sunday, showing him training at London Colney.
The caption? “Nice to be back at home.”
Elsewhere, Wojciech Szczesny is set for another loan spell at Roma, after keeping eight clean sheets at the Stadio Olimpico last term.
The Poland international has not played competitively for Arsenal since the 2014/15 FA Cup final victory over Aston Villa.
