Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is being monitored by scouts from Arsenal and has emerged as one of Arsene Wenger’s summer transfer targets, according to reports.

The Armenia international, whose current contract at Signal Iduna Park expires in 2017, is undecided on whether to remain with the Bundesliga club or move to the Emirates Stadium, according to The Guardian.

Mkhitaryan has previously attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur and would be seen as the kind of marquee signing that has often been demanded by the Gunners' support.

The 27-year-old has impressed this season under the stewardship of Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel, scoring 20 goals in 43 appearances, having previously struggled to fully justify the £23.5million outlay spent to bring him to the club from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Dortmund are keen for Mkhitaryan to extend his stay at Signal Iduna Park but, with his current deal expiring at the end of next season, may be forced to sell at a cut price if his future is not resolved by the summer.

Arsenal are likely to let go of midfielders Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini when the trio’s contracts expire at the end of the current campaign, while uncertainty remains over Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future.

Mkhitaryan, a technically adept playmaker, would most likely be seen as a replacement for Rosicky, who has spent much of the season sidelined through knee and thigh injuries.
