Arsenal’s former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has been announced as the new sporting director of Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart.

Mislintat made a shock exit from Arsenal in February, less than 14 months after joining the club from Borussia Dortmund.

During his brief time at the Emirates he oversaw several high-profile arrivals, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Bernd Leno and Mattéo Guendouzi all becoming first-team regulars under new manager Unai Emery.

However he eventually quit over rumours of a breakdown in his relationship with Head of Football Raúl Sanllehí, as well as claims he was disappointed to have been overlooked for Arsenal’s own sporting director role.

Mislintat joins Stuttgart with the side 16th in the Bundesliga, ahead of a relegation play-off to determine whether they will be playing in the top-flight next season.

“It is a huge challenge and at the same time a great honour to work for a club like VfB,” said Mislintat after his new position was confirmed.

“I grew up in the environment of traditional clubs, this atmosphere is very important to me.

“The talks with Wolfgang Dietrich and Thomas Hitzlsperger were extremely good and decisive for my decision for VfB.

“Our joint focus is in the coming weeks on the fight for survival, of course, the look is also already on the plans for the new season.”
