Arsenal look set to sign Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall, beating cross town rivals Tottenham to the player according to reports.
Cardiff have valued Marshall, 29, at £15m, and despite initial interest from Spurs, Arsenal are now hoping to sign the goalie as a replacement for backup Lukasz Fabianski who is set for a move to Swansea after an impressive FA Cup campaign.
Cardiff’s Marshall was seen as one of the team’s top players, winning player of the year for the relegated Welsh club. He started his career at Celtic before moving onto Norwich in 2007 and then Cardiff in 2009.
Tottenham have been attempting to retain French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who has desires to play Champions League football, which has subsequently delayed the signing of the Cardiff goalkeeper. Liverpool are also reportedly interested in Marshall.
Spur’s indecision over Marshall has allowed Arsenal to approach the Scottish international in the hope that he will challenge first-choice Wojciech Szczesny and provide a reliable back up option.
The Gunners may also be in need of a replacement for right-back as Bacary Sagna admitted that there is only a ‘10 per cent chance’ he will stay at the Emirates.
The France international is currently preparing for the World Cup and has admitted to have being contacted by several European and English clubs.
