Arsenal have confirmed the signing of midfielder Mikel Arteta from Everton on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The deal was thought to be dead after the Gunners had a bid rejected this afternoon, with reports suggesting Everton had turned down a part-exchange offer.

But it appears Arsenal may have bowed to the Toffees' demand for a cash-only offer, meaning they faced a race against time to get everything wrapped up before the 11pm deadline.

It is understood the latest move for Arteta is worth £10million as Arsenal look to bolster a midfield recently shorn of both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
