Anthony Martial's move to Manchester United could see the striker become the most expensive French player in history, with his fee eclipsing that paid for Zinedine Zidane.

The 19-year-old was given leave from the France squad today to head to Manchester to complete his move from Monaco.

It's understood that a fee of £36m has been agreed between United and Monaco - however reports suggest it could increase to as much as €80m (£58m) due to performance based bonuses.

That would be more than Real Madrid paid for Zidane, arguably the greatest French player in history. In 2001 they paid Juventus €75m.

It would also make Martial the second most expensive signing in British transfer history, behind only Angel Di Maria who United paid £59.7m to sign last summer.
