With Alex Teixiera and Alexandre Pato so far proving to be the biggest stories of the January transfer window so far, Europe’s elite are coming to life as we approach deadline.

The Brazilian pair, courted by Liverpool and Chelsea respectively, are likely to see their deals concluded, whatever the result, in the coming days but the window has offered a host of surprising and intriguing prospective deals.

Whether it be Andros Townsend’s attempt to rescue his career with a £12m move to Newcastle United or Mathieu Debuchy’s desperate bid to get playing time before the European Championship next summer, there are several stories which may yet light up this month.

Watford, one of the surprise packages this season, are reportedly closing in on the capture of Fiorentina ace Mario Suarez, whom worked under Quique Sanchez Flores at Atletico Madrid.

Loic Remy, on the other hand, is likely to be given his chance at redemption ahead of the summer Bournemouth in his homeland France with either Crystal Palace or Newcastle, where he scored 14 goals in 26 appearances in the 2013/14 campaign.

Manchester United, though, appear to have halted their business already as the uncertainty around Louis van Gaal's position as manager rumbles on.
