England must address their issues after Denmark draw, says Gareth Southgate

Ukraine roused themselves in the nick of time to salvage their Euro 2024 hopes as substitute Roman Yaremchuk’s late strike saw them hit back after falling a goal behind to beat Slovakia 2-1 in a lively Group E clash.

Trailing at halftime to an early header scored by Ivan Schranz, Ukraine’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage were in peril, but they stormed back in front of their joyous fans.

Slovakia, who produced the shock of the tournament so far to beat Belgium in their opener, would have sealed a last-16 berth with a win but sat back after a dream start and were punished.

Man of the match Mykola Shaparenko equalised in the 54th minute with a close-range finish before his pass sent Yaremchuk clear to prod the winner and spark ecstatic celebrations from the ranks of yellow and blue inside the Duesseldorf Stadium. Victory lifted Ukraine level on three points with Slovakia and Romania, who face Belgium on Saturday.

HALF-TIME! Poland 1-1 Austria

An interesting and entertaining first half in Berlin, with plenty of atmosphere too.

Austria dominated the opening exchanges and played brilliantly, but Poland were the better side in the second part of the half.

Who’ll take control in the second half? And will we see Robert Lewandowski?

HALF-TIME! Poland 1-1 Austria

46 mins

There’ll be just one minute of added time as Poland line up the free-kick from around 30 yards out.

Zielinksi bends it round the wall well, but Pentz is equal to it as he dives down well to his left.

The referee blows the whistle and we head into the break level!

Austria with plenty of the ball as the half comes to an end.

Sabitzer collects the ball on the edge of the box and lines up a shot from 25 yards, and it’s not too far off target, but he’s dragged it wide of the post. Never troubling Szczesny.

CLOSE! A great counter from Austria.

The ball runs loose in midfield and suddenly they’re three-v-two, with Baumgartner carrying. He has Arnautovic to his right and Sabitzer to his left – he opts for the latter, and the Dortmund man cuts back inside before hammering a shot right at the defender.

GOAL! Poland 1-1 Austria

GOAL! And Poland are level!

Poland keep the ball on the edge of the Austria box and Zielinski receives it. He swings a cross to the far post, and it’s brought down before being cut back to Bednarek on the edge of the area. His first-time shot hits a red shirt, but it drops right to the feet of Piatek, who just has to take a touch to get it out of his feet and then slot it low into the corner!

A good break from Poland ends with Frankowski getting away down the right and trying to cut a cross back to Buksa, but it’s cleared.
