Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Rangers have made an enquiry about signing the Ipswich Town striker Pablo Counago, according to his club manager, Joe Royle.

Rangers have made an enquiry about signing the Ipswich Town striker Pablo Counago, according to his club manager, Joe Royle.

The Spaniard has yet to start a league game for the Championship club this season and was taken off at half-time in Tuesday night's 2-0 Carling Cup win over Brentford.

The former forward at Celta Vigo has been told he can leave on a free transfer and the Rangers manager, Alex McLeish, has registered an interest. Royle said: "We have had an enquiry from Rangers about Pablo but there has been no follow up. With the transfer deadline only seven days away, we will know if there is serious interest very soon."

Counago, 25, has scored 33 goals for Ipswich in 64 starts in all competitions since arriving on a free transfer from Celta Vigo in the summer of 2001.

A creative midfielder remains McLeish's top priority and the former Coventry and Aston Villa player Mustapha Hadji played in a private trial match earlier in the week.
