Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Livingston fought back with two late goals in a 5-2 defeat to Sturm Graz in Austria last night to give themselves a slim chance of surviving beyond the Uefa Cup first round.

The Austrians had taken the lead through Arnold Wetl in the first half, after Alain Masudi's penalty was saved by Livingston's goalkeeper Javier Sanchez Broto. The home side turned a slim advantage into a rout when Imre Szabics and Ekrem Dag both netted before David Mujiri grabbed a double all in the space of eight minutes shortly after the break.

However, both Rolando Zarate and captain Stuart Lovell found the net in the last two minutes to give the Scottish side, in their first European campaign, something to play for in the second leg.

It was a bad night for two Dutch sides Utrecht lost 4-1 at Poland's Legia Warsaw while Heerenveen were hammered 3-0 in Romania by National Bucharest.

Italy's Chievo, on their first foray into Europe after a fine fifth place in last season's Serie A, drew 0-0 with Red Star Belgrade in Yugoslavia.
